PERVASIVE FEMINISMS' happening marks a new experimental collaboration that speaks to traditional topics of ʻNo Waveʼ feminism and also introduces a discourse of the role of the empowered female form in a religious spatial context. Within that vein, Milk and Night (director Coco Dolle) has collaborated with The Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Greenpoint, Brooklyn to provide a venue that speaks to this theme. Invited guest curators Jasmine Wahi (curator The Gateway Project, director project for Empty Space) and local cultural arts director Baxton Alexander, have joined with Milk and Night to co-curate this event. The Lutheran Church of the Messiahʼs Pastor, Amy Kienzle, hails from an art historical background, and has a vested interested in the intersections of arts, sacred places, and broader communities. With the Bishopsʼ approval, Pastor Amy is delighted to have the opportunity to present this happening. Within the constraints of constructive criticism, the church is welcoming all mediums and forms of art, including discourse around challenging topics, particularly with respect to ʻthe bodyʼ, body ownership, sexual orientation, and critique of the religious institution.
